Buyer's Guide on How to Choose the Right Bat

How to choose a pitching machine
Player at bat

Choosing the right baseball or softball bat is fairly simple. However there are a few things to consider:

First, find out what baseball or softball equipment restrictions may exist in the league that you will be playing in, especially for bats.  Some league requirements state that bats must be made from certain materials, or that they can only be single barrel wall construction, or the bat has to weigh a certain amount in relationship to its length. Check with your league or tournament directors to find out what their rules are concerning bat qualifications, as well as restrictions on any other baseball or softball equipment.

Next, look at the chart that we have provided to determine the general length of the bat that you will need.

Once the length has been chosen, you must determine what the right weight of the bat should be.  Most experts agree that the bat should be as light as possible and still comfortable to swing. Bat speed is what gives the hitter power and is very important when it comes to using the new super thin walled bats. The reason being, that when the ball hits the barrel of a very thin walled bat, the more bat speed the batter can generate, the greater the trampoline effect you will create off the barrel of the bat, this will give you greater velocity to produce an explosive hit.

So be sure to get the right length of bat with a weight that you will feel comfortable swinging with the maximum amount of bat speed. Then work on good hitting fundamentals and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. It will make all the difference. We offer a variety of DeMarini & Miken baseball and softball bats, Mizuno baseball equipment, and more to help get you started.
